Launching a podcast sounds exciting at first until you’re knee-deep in editing apps, second-guessing your trailer, and wondering if anyone will actually listen. As a mom balancing business, babies, and barely enough time to drink a hot cup of coffee, podcasting can feel like another overwhelming task on your never-ending to-do list.

I know, because I’ve been there.

When I launched my first podcast back in 2018, I didn’t have half the resources we have now. I thought launching a podcast would be as simple as recording an episode and hitting publish. But the reality? There were way more moving pieces than I expected and a whole lot of Googling.

If you’re thinking about launching a podcast (or in the thick of it right now), this episode is your behind-the-scenes peek at what I wish I had back then and how you can skip the stress and start stronger.

The Truth About Launching a Podcast as a Mom

Let’s rewind to my first podcast launch. I had a baby, a business, and very little time but I was determined to create something that could grow my brand and bring in clients. I assumed podcasting would be straightforward. Spoiler: it wasn’t.

Here’s what I didn’t realize:

  • I needed more than a checklist—I needed a timeline that worked around real life (read: nap schedules and toddler meltdowns).
  • I didn’t have a strategy, just a vague idea and a mic.
  • And I was trying to do everything—editing, graphics, publishing—completely alone.

I almost didn’t launch at all because I felt so overwhelmed. And that’s exactly why I want to help you avoid that same fate.

5 Things I Wish I Had When Launching a Podcast

If I could go back and do it all over again, here are the five biggest things I wish I had when launching a podcast:

1. A Realistic Launch Plan and Timeline

I didn’t need just a task list—I needed a launch plan built for mom life. I wish I had a roadmap that clearly laid out what to do each week, when to expect hiccups, and where I could give myself grace. Launching a podcast doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Life happens. And your timeline should account for that.

2. Strategy and Tech Support

Trying to be both the strategist and the tech expert was a major energy drain. I spent hours figuring out things that could’ve been solved with a 10-minute template or walkthrough. More than that, I didn’t know if my show even aligned with my business goals. I wish I had a second set of eyes or even a launch coach to help me make those strategic decisions with confidence.

3. Confidence in My Voice and Message

Like many moms stepping behind the mic for the first time, I second-guessed everything—my voice, my message, even the name of my show. I wish someone had told me, “This is normal. Just start. Your voice matters.” Confidence doesn’t magically appear—it’s built through clarity and consistency.

4. A Promotional Plan That Didn’t Burn Me Out

When it came time to promote my launch, I was everywhere. Instagram. Facebook. Email. Stories. I thought more platforms meant more visibility… but all it got me was burnout. I wish I had a focused, sustainable promotion plan—one that prioritized connection over content overload.

5. Accountability and Encouragement

Launching alone is lonely. I had no community, no cheerleaders, and no one to say, “You’ve got this.” I wish I had just one biz bestie or support group to keep me motivated when things felt hard. Accountability makes a huge difference especially when you’re juggling so much already.

What I’d Do Differently If I Were Launching a Podcast Today

If I were starting over today, here’s how I’d approach launching a podcast with more ease and intention:

  • Batch record 5–6 episodes before even hitting publish
  • Map out launch week with a clear plan and buffer time
  • Focus on building relationships rather than chasing downloads
  • Outsource whatever I could—editing, show notes, graphics
  • Repeat this mantra: Done is better than perfect

Your podcast launch doesn’t have to be a fancy, high-pressure event. It just needs to be aligned, authentic, and manageable for your season of life.

Encouragement for Moms Getting Ready to Launch

If you’re launching a podcast soon, here’s what I want you to know:

  • Your voice is needed—even if it’s a little shaky at first.
  • You don’t have to be everywhere. Pick one place to show up well.
  • You can grow into your show. You don’t need it all figured out on Day 1.
  • Give yourself grace. You’re doing something incredible—in the margins of motherhood.

Most importantly? You don’t have to do this alone.
